The Green Point lighthouse which was built in 1895 as an aid for sea traffic consists of a round cylinder shaped iron structure with a walking bridge around the light fixture and the whole structure is distinguished by alternating red and white sections. |

The first lighthouse keeper was Robert Andrews of Ship Cove and around the turn of the century the lighthouse keeper lived in a house that was attached to the structure adjacent to the door. (CLICK HERE) The last keeper of the light before it was automated was Graham Petten. The trip to the lighthouse at Green Point is a highlight for picnickers and hikers alike. |

A lighthouse hike can bring the opportunity for an award winning photo shoot if just after a Nor'easter and the breaker just off Spareable Island is fully emerging in the background of the lighthouse. The breaking breaker scene has been captured on several of local artist Jake Kennedys paintings. |
